Reducing Demand Law of conservation of energy states that the total amount of energy in a system remains constant. Although it can be transferred, it can neither be created nor destroyed.
2
Investing in more Dams Environmental – -Threaten habitats -Causes landslides + Creates bridges between areas + Protection against flooding Social – -Loss of land for housing -People may need to be moved out due to filling basins + More water for better lifestyles + Flooding control Economic – -Reduced fishing potential - Causes conflict about water supply + Water storage + Causes bonds between countries
3
Zero Carbon policy Environmental – - + Uses fewer resources to manufacture system component + Social – - + Economic – - +
4
Home Demand reduction Environmental – -Possible reduction in local plant life -Could cause local habitats (birds etc) to go elsewhere + Causes minimal landscape damage if any + More stored energy when home demand is reduced Social – - May lead to a reduction in home quality of life - Could pressure homeowners into putting themselves in uncomfortable conditions to save energy + Reduced energy bills for homeowners Economic – - Possibly less tax being paid - Jobs in energy production could be slow/lost + Reduced need for energy production + Only pay for what you use
