Areas affected by the California Water Project spread from Northern California to Southern Califronia. 750,000 acres of irrigated farmland.

The total amount of water supply available in any year uses varies depending on precipitation levels. In addition, there are many fresh water lakes in this region that include the Salton Sea, Lake Tahoe, and Lake Shasta. All of which are man made.

The main purpose for the California Water Project is to store and distribute water to major water suppliers in all of California. The project delivers water to two thirds of California residents it also improves water quality, controls floods provide recreation, and enhance fish and wildlife.

The problems with this project is it is very inconsistent. One summer they might make millions of gallons of clean water and the next they might make only thousands. Also, this project has cost the state of California 600 million dollars per year.

Many of the water delivered to the major water suppliers in California repay all of the costs taken to fund the clean water. There has also been acts to make the California Water Project more environmentally friendly and less harmful to the land that the dams are placed on.
