The county of Iasi has a surface of more than 5400 km² and lies at the east border of Romania with the Moldavia Republic. Its neighbors are in north Suceava and Botosani, the south Vaslui and the west Neamt. The geographical position on seven hills (Copou, Sorogari, Tatarasi, Cetatuia, Bucium, Galata, Holboca) attracted the comparison between the Moldavian city and Latin Rome. Iasi is mentioned in a list of the cities as of the period 1387-1392. Documentary the city dates from the 1408, when the town of Iasi appears in a commercial privilege granted by Alexandru Cel Bun (the Good) to the Russian goods sellers. Thanks to its favorable position to the crossroads of trade route, Iasi develops and becomes quickly the capital of Moldavia during the reign of Alexandru Lapusneanu (1565). Anyone can easily say that Iasi is a true museum because each corner evokes the passage of a great personality of the Romanian literature, science, philosophy, history or politics.
