2 HOT v. COLD Hotter medias are high in resolution and in information, therefore require less audience participation. Cold medias require a high amount of audience participation due to their low definition. Hot media: require little thought process (bubble gum for the brain.) Cold media: requires us to use our imaginations to fill in missing information. An example of cold media.

4 Hot Printed word: Provides detailed information Generally visual Emphasizes one sense Linear and logical Favors analytical precision Bright and intense Radio: Stimulates a single sense and a communal activity. Photography: Captures everything visible to the naked eye, full of color and detail. What you see is what you get.

5 Hot Movies are loud and explosive, many people can come together and pay for the movie going experience. It is a social activity and leaves little to interpretation.

Higher quality Analytical precision emphasized COLD Provides less data, therefore requires more engagement. Attracts multiple senses Lower quality “fuzzy” Ambiguous and subtle
