Overweight and Obesity in Illinois Data indicate that 68 percent of American adults are either overweight Body Mass Index (BMI) equal to 25.0 to 29.9 or obese with BMI greater than 30. Illinois adults are slightly lower (63.7%) than the national average in the combined category (36% overweight and 27.7% obese). (Figure 1). Illinois ranks as the 23 rd fattest state –F as in Fat - 2010

Overweight and Obesity According to NHANES, 16.9% of children ages 2-19 are obese and 31.7% are either overweight or obese. This translates to more than 12 million children and adolescents who are obese and more than 23 million who are either overweight or obese.
