Protecting our environment Our world is in great danger.

A Work in groups. Think of some real environmental problem existing near our school, home or local parks. Use these questions and notes to help you discuss the problems.

Rubbish Is there a lot of rubbish anywhere? Where is it? (ground/ roads) Does it cause any problems?( bed smell/ insects/ rats) Are there any dangerous waste materials from a building site?

Noise pollution Is it noisy in your area? Can the noise be controlled? Is a building company working during the night? What problems does the noise cause you? (headaches/ cannot study)

Water pollution Is there any open water (lakes/ rivers) nearby? What state is the water in? (clean/ polluted) What causes the pollution? (rubbish/chemicals from factories) What are the effects of the pollution?

Air pollution Is the air in your neighborhood clean or dirty? Can you smell waste gases from cars? Is there a factory or power station nearby? What problems does air pollution cause?

B Choose three of these problems and plan a letter to the Director describing them and asking for his or her help to solve them. You can use the notes below to help you plan your letter.
