Order of Operations What if you have a problem that has more than one operation (For example, addition, multiplication and exponents). Which do you do first? Order of Operations gives us an order of which one to perform 1st, 2nd, 3rd...

Example: 27 3 – 3 7 7 + 3 The fraction bar is a way of grouping. Think of the numerator as having parentheses around it and the denominator with parentheses around it. Then divide... (27 3 – 3 7) (7 + 3) = (81 – 21) 10 = 60 10 = 6

Example: 4[21 – (4 + 9)] Work from the inside out when there are more than one set of grouping symbols... 4[21 – (13)] = 4[8] = 32
