5.4 Line Graphs Mme DiMarco
2
Learning Goal: In today’s lesson, we wll be learning how to display data using line graphs and how to describe trends Learning Goal
3
Line graph: displays data that has changed over time Example, this line graph shows the size of the population of a country over time What is a line graph??
4
Horizontal Axes (x axis): in a line graph, the horizontal axis represents time Vertical Axis (y axis): in a line graph, this represents the value which you wish to display Axes
5
Titles Title for horizontal axis Title for vertical axis Title for the graph (what does this graph show???) Values What values does the graph represent? Number of people? Number of years? Number of fruit? WE NEED TO KNOW Clarity Your graph should be easy to read!!! Neat, organized and labeled appropriately Characteristics of a Graph
6
Step 1: decide which values you want to represent on the vertical and horizontal axes of your graph (remember, the horizontal axis should show time) For example, the y axis could show the population of Canada in millions, and the x axis could show the years 1990 – 2015 Step 2: plot a point for each piece of data that you show on the graph Step 3: draw a line connecting the points of data How to Create a Line Graph
