Roof styles

Flat Roof A flat roof is horizontal or nearly horizontal. Materials that cover flat roofs typically allow the water to run off freely from a very slight incline. They are economical to build.

Gable Roof Gable roof is the most common type of roof in North America. (pitched) roof with two sloped sides that form an 'A' shape.

Gambrel Roof a gable roof with two slopes on each side and the lower slope being steeper; often called a barn roof

Hip Roof type of roof with 4 sides sloped downward to the walls, usually with a fairly gentle slope.

Mansard Roof Variation of the Gambrel roof with two slopes on all sides with the lower slope being steep, almost a vertical wall, while the upper slope, almost flat. Often has dormers. Dormer

Roof Styles Using construction paper, create a simple model of the roof style you have chosen. Include no features on your house. Attach your model roof to a piece of cardboard to make the “yard”. Clearly label your roof style & include a basic description of your roof.
