PIKA Technologies Warp Upgrade procedure for 2.2.x Alain Gauthier 13.07.10
2
Introduction Meant to explain how the Warp upgrade procedure works for version 2.2.x
3
Autorun execution When a USB stick or SD is inserted and contains an autorun file, the latter is executed. The LED will turn red to show that the autorun is being executed. If the /usr/bin/.autorun.once file exist then it stops executing, LED turn green If both USB and SD contain an autorun file, then it stops executing If USB or SD are not writable then stop executing Verify that /persistent is correctly mounted, if not stop executing Verify that the IMAGE_CREATE_DATE is different from between autorun and /persistent/version_info.txt If they are the same then Remove uboot_autorun.scr from media (USB or SD) Execute do_restore procedure (normally commented out) Stop executing Set green LED If uboot_autorun.scr from media exist then Verify that the image versions between the media and what is currently on the Warp are different If they are not all different then stop executing
4
Autorun execution Create uboot_autorun.scr in the media (USB or SD) This will contain all the uboot commands to upgrade the different partitions. Each partition file on the media is checked with it’s corresponding CRC do_backup is invoked (normally commented) Update IMAGE_CREATION_DATE in /persistent/version_info.txt Turn LED green Reboot When the unit reboots and Uboot is executing, Uboot will detect the uboot_autorun.scr from the media (USB or SD) and execute it. This will update each partition At the end of the Uboot update, the kernel and ramdisk will start running and the update process will be complete since the dates will now match.
5
Uboot_autorun.scr execution When the unit reboots and Uboot is executing, Uboot will detect the uboot_autorun.scr from the media (USB or SD) and execute it. This will update each partition At the end of the Uboot update, the kernel and ramdisk will start running and the update process will be complete since the dates will now match.
6
PADS In PADS the autorun file is located in /images/autorun
7
Autorun customization Usually the only part that the user needs to be concerned are the following 2 functions do_backup() Add which part you wish to backup do_restore() Add which part you wish to restore after the backup has completed Then uncomment # do_backup() # do_restore()
8
Trick – minor updates Usually during minor updates, persistent files should not have been modified. If you are sure of this then there is no need to update the persistent partitions. So when you copy the necessary image files to your media, such as the Ramdisk file, so ramdisk-2.2.x-y.wrp
9
Reporting In the event that the upgrade failed, you may peruse the log file called Upgrade-2.2.x-y.log Located on the media (USB or SD) and /persistent1
