10 Science How are animals grouped? Page 38 – 43. Important words – Trait are body features passed on to an animal from its parents. Example eye color – Vertebrate is an animal with a backbone. Examples are fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds, and mammals. – Fish live their entire lives in water, have slippery scales, and breathe through their gills – Amphibians are frogs, toads, and salamanders. They spend part of their lives in water and part on land. – Reptiles have dry, scaly skin. Reptiles include snakes, lizards, turtles, crocodiles, and alligators. – Birds are vertebrates with feathers and bills that do not have teeth – Mammals have hair or fur and feed their babies milk.
