Pre-trip – The inspection performed before departing with equipment Post-trip – The inspection performed when finished with equipment DVIR – Driver Vehicle Inspection Reporting – The post-trip inspection, and the process by which defects are repaired, the inspection is certified, and the inspections stored Zone – Area or region distinguished from adjacent parts by a distinctive feature or characteristic DOT – Department of Transportation Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) Equipment Inspection and Reporting - Terms

FMCSA Requirements Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports (FMCSA Part 396.11 and 396.13)  Driver is required to prepare a report on their vehicle and attached equipment  The report should list any defects and company/driver needs to ensure defects are repaired prior to equipment operation  Report must be retained for 90 days Driving of Commercial Motor Vehicles (FMCSA Part 392.7)  No motor vehicle should be driven unless the driver is satisfied the equipment is in good working order  Driver must inspect all equipment before departing with it  Driver is not required to generate a written report Equipment Inspection and Reporting

Driver must inspect equipment when finished using it If defects are found, a mechanic must mark them as repaired, or the driver can indicate they are no longer necessary Driver must certify the previous post- trip inspection prior to departure If the previous post-trip is missing, one must be created Driver must perform a pre-trip when starting shift, or picking up equipment Equipment Inspection and Reporting - Requirements

Equipment Inspection and Reporting During the day Layovers/ Breaks End of the day Beginning of the day Before the driver departs center When the driver adds or drops off equipment The inspection may be the same as the ending or beginning of a shift After the driver arrives at center When inspections are performed? Since inspections are performed continuously, it is important that they are reported and transmitted in a timely fashion

User-configurable inspections  Web-based tool to create inspections  Individual inspections for vehicles, trailers, and dollies  Inspection consists of one or more zones, each containing one or more inspection points  Zone ordering should match driver inspection order  Provide user-managed catalog of inspection points Equipment Inspection and Reporting – Key Features

Loose Inspection  Pre- and post-trip inspections can be individually configured by center as “Loose”  Loose inspection prompts driver if they have defects. If they do, they can indicate the defect, otherwise they are finished  Rewards centers that have demonstrated competence in safety procedures Equipment Inspection and Reporting – Key Features

Tight Inspection  Pre- and post-trip inspections can be individually configured by center as “Tight”  Tight inspection requires driver to navigate through each inspection zone  Provides stricter guidance, for tighter compliance or “difficult” centers Equipment Inspection and Reporting – Key Features

DVIR Certification  Verify that the DVIR is the latest and that all defects had been resolved  Driver may change equipment or indicate defects that no longer require repair Equipment Inspection and Reporting – Key Features

DOT and Non-DOT Notes  Driver can enter notes for each piece of equipment  Driver can enter a second note indicating something that requires repair, but doesn’t impact the use of the equipment (i.e. broken radio, torn seat, etc.) Equipment Inspection and Reporting – Key Features

Enables mechanics  To identify equipment requiring repair  View both DOT and non-DOT notes  Add a note and/or a repair order number, if required  Indicate the defects have been repaired Equipment Inspection and Reporting - Mechanics Interface
