Be + verb-ing
Use the present progressive to talk about an action that is or is not happening now
We can use the time expressions now, right now, and at the moment with the present progressive.
Be careful! We don’t usually use non-action verbs in the present progressive.

The machine isn’t working now.
Right now she’s resting.
At the moment he’s talking on the phone.
The textbook costs $80.
NOT: The textbook is costing $80.

4. Grammar Notes Use contractions in speaking and informal writing
I’m not studying. I’m resting.
Luis isn’t playing a game. He’s reading.
We aren’t playing a game. We’re practicing.
Do not repeat the verb be when the subject is doing 2 things.
They’re singing and dancing.
NOT: They’re singing and are dancing.

5. Grammar Notes Spelling?
If a verb ends in a silent –e, drop the final –e and add –ing.
She’s driving home. (drive)
I’m taking a test. (take)
We sometimes use the present progressive for an action that is taking place at this time, but may not be happening at this moment.
These days Julie is working hard.
