What is an E-Portfolio? An E-Portfolio informs the reader about your engineering practices and experiences by presenting items that you have created related to engineering and your reflection on that item that explains the features that you wish to highlight. An Engineering E-Portfolio presents a series of carefully selected artifacts you have developed throughout your studies. An artifact, in this context, comprises an item (for example a project report, a video of your project activity, an assessment task, etc.) and a piece of reflective writing about that item that explains how this item demonstrates your capability or development of skills and knowledge. Getting your E-Portfolio started
6
Item is a digital object related to your engineering studies; this is an electronic file, for example a Word or PDF document that is part of a project or assessment task, or a video file showing you engaged in the project activity, or an audio file of you interviewing an engineer. Artifact is an item plus the reflection that you have written. Engineering E-Portfolio is a gathering of artifacts that, together, demonstrate your capabilities as an engineer of the future. Artifact = [Item + Reflection] Portfolio = collection of Artifacts selected for a purpose. If you change or update an artifact all portfolios using that artifact will reflect that change (unless you have exported the portfolio before changing the artifact). Explaining the terminology.
