2 Who Samuel de Champlain was born in 1567 in Brouge.
Between 1601 and wrote his first book—The Brief Discourse. Champlain is best known as the Father of New France. He die on Chrisman Day in

3 What Samuel de Champlain started to become an explorer from traveling with his uncle on the Saint Julien for almost three years. When Champlain was a young man, a war was being fought in France. Champlain fought on the side of the Catholics. He fought under the command of Henry of Navarre.

4 When Champlain was 23 years old when he first became an explorer.
Champlain left France with three ships on March 15th , 1603. When Champlain returned to France from his voyage the king decided to send more people to start a colony. In 1604, Champlain traveled back to Canada to help start this colony. Champlain and his men settled on Dochet Island in the saint Croix River. Saint Croix Island turned out to be a place for a colony. The winter was very cold. It was hard for them to grow food . During Champlain’s stay in France he married Helen Broulle, a twelve year old girl. He returned to Quebec on May 21st, 1611. During the summer he traveled to the area which is now Montrea. Champlain wasn’t to stay in France for long. On April 18th, 1608 he once again returned to New France with deMonts, this time as a lieutenant, with the intention of building a permanent settlement some where a long the St. Lawrence River.

5 Where Champlain returned to France and got permission from King Henry IV to start a French colony in Quebec. Champlain became friends with two Native American groups in Canada. Guided by the Native Americans, Champlain went south into the lands of the Iroquois. Then he found a huge and beautiful lake. He named it Lake Champlain. They fought with bows and arrows. Champlain and his men spent two years at another place in Annopolis Basin. During that time Champlain reached a place on the St. Lawrence River in Quebec. The Native Americans have already named it. On July third in 1608 Champlain and his men started building a shelter. Soon the weather turned cold. Food was hard to find. Only Champlain and 8 men survived the winter.

6 Why Samuel de Champlain started to explore because King Henry IV of France sent Champlain on a trip to explore Canada. Champlain left France with three ships on March 15,1603. Champlain’s life was full of adventure. Champlain also explored Lake Ontario. He was trying to find the Northwest passage what he thought would be a shortcut to Asia. Founded Canada. Many colonists died of a disease called scurvy. They started a settlement in Quebec.

7 How The Native Americans helped Champlain to take furs to New France.
Champlain traded with the Native Americans. The Algonquin's and the Huron asked Champlain to help them fight the Iroquois. Champlain was hurt by an arrow during the fight of the Iroquois. Champlain became friends with two Native American groups in Canada. These groups were the Algonquin’s and the Hurons. Champlain learned how to make birch conues. Champlain encouraged missionaries to live among the natives and convert them especially the Huron.
