1 Albert Einstein By: Alex Beck

2 Early Years Born on March 14, 1879, in Ulm, Württemberg, Germany to Paulina and Hermann Einstein. In 1880 his family moved to Munich His first interest in science shown through when his father showed him a compass. He was mystified by its behavior and felt that “something deeply hidden had to be behind things.”

3 Early Schooling During Einstein's education, he was bored with the simplicity of the subjects his teachers gave him. From his teachers perspective he was considered lazy, stupid, or both. When he wanted to study something he did and did well at hard sciences and math.

4 Secondary School In 1894 his family moves to Milan, but he remains in Munich until 1895 when he fails an examination to become an electric engineer. In 1896 Einstein enrolled into the Swiss Federal Polytechnic School in Zurich. Einstein aspired to become a teacher of mathematics and physics, because he thought he had a “disposition for abstract and mathematical thought, and lack of imagination and practical ability. “

5 First Jobs Einstein tried to find a job as a teacher but in fact could not find any job at all for over 8 months until- He found work part time as a teacher of math and physics. He also became a "Technical expert third class." at the Swiss Patent office. His son Hans Albert was born in 1904

6 1905: 3 papers Einstein earned a doctorate degree from University of Zurich for a thesis written earlier On a new determination of molecular dimensions Einstein first paper applied Planck's quantum hypothesis to describe the frequency of light. His second paper described The Special Theory of Relativity. His third paper involved statistical mechanics which had earlier been studied by Ludwig Boltzmann and Josiah Gibbs.

7 1907 discovered principal of equivalence, whereby the force of gravity is equivalent to artificial force of acceleration. 1910 second son, Eduard Born in Bern. 1911 predicts bending of light to the force of gravity. 1914 Moves to Berlin, and sings an anti-war manifest after joining the pacifist “New Fatherland League”

8 1914-1932 Berlin Professor at University of Berlin.
1916 Publishes General Relativity. 1919 Becomes world famous after theory on light bending is proven during a solar eclipse. 1922 publishes first paper on unified field theory. Becomes increasingly dissatisfied with the politics in Germany at the start of 1930 even more ardently pacifistic.

9 Princeton Years Moves to America and declares he will never return to Germany. 1939 Writes letter to Roosevelt recommending doing research on nuclear weapons. 1940 becomes pledged as a US citizen.

10 Later life After WW2 ends Einstein is an ardent advocate of the formation of a one world government. Supports formation of Israel, and in 1952 he is offered presidency of Israel and refuses. He is the co-signer of the Russell-Einstein Manifesto, which describes the threats of nuclear war. Albert Einstein dies on April , his ashes were scattered in an undisclosed location.
