12 Sometimes, it is hard to decide if the word is part of a verb (verb phrase). Example: Bud is glad to be an actor. In this sentence, is glad part of the verb? If you are unsure, try placing to before the word: to glad. This makes it an infinitive. Then, use the word in three short sentences: Today, I glad. Yesterday, I gladded. Tomorrow, I shall glad. This doesn’t make sense. You can’t use glad as a verb. Therefore, you will not underline glad as part of the verb.
