In HISD, the curriculum is found on the HISD website. It is called CLEAR ONLINE and can be accessed through the HISD portal, once you have a district username and password. Some of you may have received your username and password today at registration. You will hear people refer to the HISD curriculum documents as CLEAR. Session Goals To develop an understanding of HISD curriculum and how it serves as a framework for instructional planning. To develop an understanding of navigating CLEAR online in the HISD portal and gain access to a tutorial for continued navigation learning. Our objectives for the session include helping you to: 1) develop a working understanding of Houston ISD curriculum documents; 2) determine how HISD curriculum tools can be used to plan effective instruction; and 3) understand where to access CLEAR Online and other resources and how to navigate through the documents. We will model the online navigation today. You will have an opportunity to log-on and practice tomorrow. In addition, you will have a CLEAR Online tutorial in the new Teacher Learning Path. We will explain later. This denotes a critical element for planning, teaching, and learning. The “P” icon indicates a Power Objective. Before we discuss the meaning of Power Objectives further, [Click] I want to give you time to read silently, the article in your program guide called, The “Safety Net” Curriculum. It is on page XXX [Pause to allow 5 minutes for reading] During a year long process, teachers and other stakeholders helped determine the HISD Objectives that fit the criteria for Power Objectives. Power Objectives are defined as: Prioritized (Power) objectives that are derived from a systematic and balanced approach to distinguishing the objectives that are absolutely essential for student success. (The curriculum department has worked with various teachers across campuses in past year to identify the HISD Power obj.) Only focusing on introducing the CBAs. The definition of formative and summative assessments are in the glossary. New teachers will work with campus PLCs to learn more about use of formative and summative assessments in teaching and learning. Presenter says: In reviewing the HAPGs, you will notice that it offered assessment considerations for formative (informal, real-time) assessments. Houston ISD has provided additional structure of support in assessment by providing periodic summative assessments that can be administered at the end of a 6-9 weeks and are aligned to the knowledge and skills for that grading period.
