.ABSTRACT: Substations are often equipped with a number of diverse measurement and monitoring systems which provide information on the performance of protection, switching and power distribution equipment. The usefulness of this data improves with its visibility to users in real-time. This paper will discuss practical cases where substation data from a number of different sites is collected into a database and analyzed according to user requirements. Automated alarms, alerts and daily reports are generated which can be used to better manage substation equipment performance and reduce downtime. This paper will be of interest to power distribution and maintenance engineers as well as consultants.

.OBJECTIVE: Substations exist to provide electrical power to various loads. A number of these loads can be considered critical and the interruption of power will result in equipment downtime and loss of revenue. Due to limited capital budgets only a small percentage of substations are monitored. The main aim of this project is to monitor and controlling the substations of Electricity Board.

.METHODOLOGY: This project is developed to monitoring and controlling substation system for electricity board and to send the information about the variation in substation to the Head Office using XBee. This project contains three sensors for over voltage and under voltage detection, temperature detection and short circuit detection. After sensing those parameter depending on the scenario the ARM controller will take appropriate action. The main modules in this project are Sensors (over voltage and under voltage detection, temperature sensor and short circuit sensor), ARM controller unit with LCD display and output device.

This transmitter model is placed in Substation and receiver will there in Head Office. This model has three Sensors as an input device to substations and depending on the parameter measured the controller will take appropriate action. The same information will be send to the Head Office via XBee. The receiver will activates the outputs to indicate a sensor has detected a signal the Head Office has to take appropriate action.

.ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES: ADVANTAGES: Cost efficiency. In this project losses are Minimal. This project can implement for Security of supply. DISADVANTAGES: The electricity network only (not gas) it concerns both distribution and transmission levels. It increases the cost whereas digital systems reduce the cost of system.

.APPLICATIONS: This system can be implemented in industries. This system can be implanted in schools, colleges and companies etc… This system can be used to monitoring and controlling the home appliances

.CONCLUSION: Integrating features of all the hardware components used have been developed in it. Presence of every module has been reasoned out and placed carefully, thus contributing to the best working of the unit. Secondly, using highly advanced IC ‟ s with the help of growing technology, the project has been successfully implemented. Thus the project has been successfully designed and tested.
