What Will You Learn in World History II? The BIG IDEAS: Since the Renaissance, more and more people around the world…. expect PROGRESS: liberty, equality and a comfortable standard of living… interact with and depend on each other through GLOBALIZATION …and experience different types of CONFLICT & COOPERATION as a result of globalization and competing ideas about progress.

What Will You DO in World History II? Read, write and talk about how globalization and progress affected world history since 1500; Develop your thinking skills and learning habits in order to become a more effective and confidant learner; Improve your public speaking and problem solving skills by studying and debating how different countries deal with conflict and cooperation.

Thinking Skill #1: Reasoning with Evidence = using facts, statistics, and other sources of information to counter misunderstandings and deepen real understanding. ___ 1. The US went to war in Iraq in 2002 because Saddam Hussein was helping terrorist groups like Al Qaeda. ___4. All Muslim countries oppress women. ___5. Americans are biased against Muslims. Tonight’s assignment: Product Search You will use your home for a global product search. Identify the country of origin of the product. Write it down on the handout. Be prepared to discuss your results in class tomorrow.

Reasoning with Evidence: Product Survey Results and Globalization 1.Write the name of the country of origin of each product you researched on the white board as your partner dictates the list. 2.With your partner, try to locate the countries on the maps posted in the room, then label them by name on your blank map. 3.Which countries appeared the most on our class list? 4.Which regions seem to be missing? 5.What questions do the results of our survey raise? Write at least two: 6.What do the results of our survey teach you about the importance of globalization and our daily lives? Write 1-3 complete sentences:
