DANCE AND MUSIC Dance: India has different music and dance that is a lot different than dance in America. They do movements with bamboo sticks. They raise them and the dancer tries to not touch it. They play an instrument like a flute,it is called the Bansuri. Except the Bansuri makes a way different sound, they definitely have their own type of music in India. Music: The Bansuri is a classic flute they play in India.It is made out of bamboo. It can have six or seven holes. It is similar to the flute in Vedas. Naan is a traditional flat bread. You can eat it with dip or cheese. You can eat Roganjosh with chips or rice and beans. Indian foods are different than our average American foods.

Indian foods are different than are average American foods. India is located in Asia. It is also almost twice the size as Alaska. It is a very big country.

RECREATION An extremely popular game in India is Cricket. Cricket is played between 2 teams of 2 players. The teams play in large open areas. The pitcher is called the bowler. The cricket is not like bowling. Infact to be bowled for a duck in a game of cricket is like striking out a baseball. India also has movies. Indians have fun just like us! They might have different games, but they are still very fun.

INDIA’S CELEBRATIONS HOLI Holi is a two day festival that also celebrates the victory of the Spring harvest season, it’s Commonly reffered to as the “Festival of Colors”. People joyfully throw colored powder and water all over each other, and have parties and dance under water sprinklers.

ART. Indian art consists a verity of art forms including plastic art sculptures and visual arts and textile arts like woven silk. India,Pakastan and Bangladsh have a strong design of Indian art and it can be observed in modern and traditional ways.

INDIA’S CELEBRATIONS DIWALI People fill their homes with candles made out of clay. Diwali lasts for 5 days, Diwali celebrates many things. In Hindus the light represents Inner light. Diwali has a special place in Hindus mythology. Lighting fire works is a Diwali custom. Diwali = the renewal of life and the triumph of light over darkness.

CLOTHING AND COSTUMES Saris are a traditional clothing for women in the Northeast. They wear Saris or Ghar Cholisl. While many South Indian women traditionally wear Sari and children wear Pattulanga. Saris are made out of silk and are considered the most elegant and for men the traditional clothing includes Kurta, Sherwani, Lungi, Angarkha jama and Dhoti or pajama. Recently pants and shirts have been excepted as a traditional Indian dress by the government of India.

LANGUAGE In India you say namaste [nah ma stay]. That’s how you say hello or goodbye in Hindi. Hindi is an Indian language. There are many different Hindi languages including Bengali, Marathi, Tamil, Urdu, Guiarati, Kanhada, Malayam, Odia, and Punabi.

EXTRA CREDIT COMPARE AND CONTRAST India and the United States are quite different from each other. Living in America is more expensive than living in India. The American dollar is equal to 45.44 Indian rupees. Education is more expensive In India than in America. In India it is less expensive to buy food, a regular employees wages in India are much lower. That’s why day to day life in America is much more expensive when compared to other countries. For a long time it has been a custom for India to arrange their children’s marriages. The parents would normally choose their children’s husband and wife to be someone from India and based it on the class status of their families.
