8. Newspaper articles Newspaper articles give us information about things that have happened around the world. They are usually written in the past tense as they are reporting on something that has already happened.

9. A headline is the title given to a news story. It is usually used to explain the story in very few words. It will normally focus on the most important point in the story. Headers can also be used in articles to highlight an important point. Newspaper articles

10. Newspaper stories can give us both facts and opinions. Facts are normally used to provide evidence for why the writer has formed that opinion. Photos are also often used to help tell the story. Normally they will have a caption explaining what they show. Newspaper articles

11. A good story should follow this structure: Beginning - Setting the scene. Do the characters have a problem to solve? Middle – What do the characters do? Who else do they meet? End – How does the story finish? Have the characters solved their problem? Planning a story

12. Before you start writing your story think about what happened when you acted it out in your groups. Did the story you came up with fit this structure or do you need to add more to the middle or a good ending? Write down what will happen in each stage of your story before you start trying to write it. Planning a story

13. Once you have planned what is going to happen in your story you can start to write it. Make sure you use words that fit the type of story that you want to write. For example if you want it to sound exciting use energetic words to help give the story the right sort of atmosphere. Writing your story
