2 Outline Download satellite raw data and order surface temperature, and reflectance data. Download the HDFView software and visualize the temperature data. Read and export temperature data in ASCII (text) format. Read and visualize VNIR data.

3 Download satellite data Step 1 Go to EOS Gateway site http://delenn.gsfc.nasa.gov/~imswww/pub/i mswelcome/

4 Step 2 Click on “Enter as guest”

5 To search your data you can 1. use the saved “Search Critera” (step 3a-5a). After step 3a-5a, please go to step 9. (You can see the explanation for the form content in step 3-9) The above method is easy for new users. 2. Or you can fill in the search form by yourself in step 3-9 (from slide 9-16).

6 Step 3a click “Browse”

7 Step 4a click the saved file “2002_06_01_08_03_Las_Cruces.query” then “Open”

8 Step 5a Click “Restore Search Criteria”, then “Start Search” and go to step 9. (if you made any change for the “Search Criteria” in the form on the page, before the search you can first save the criteria by clicking on “Save Search Criteria”).

9 Step 3. Choose “Aster”

10 Choose “ASTER L1B REGISTERED RADIANCE AT THE SENSOR V003” Step 4

11 Fill out the form of “Choose Search Area” Step 5

12 Step 6 Click on the button of “Display Lat/Lon Range on Map” and display the chosen region.

13 Step 7 Fill out the “Start Date” and “End Date”

14 Step 8 Choose “Day Only”

15 Optional step You can save your search criteria by clicking on “Save Search Criteria” and then follow the instruction. The saved file will make your future search easier. You can just reload it next time and do not need to fill out the form again (see step 3a-5a).

16 Press the “Start Search” button.

18 Step 10 To preview desired area image click on the “Image”

26 Order surface temperature data Step 15 Go back to the list page and choose desired data ID (pressing mouse left button and dragging through the ID) and then copy the data granule ID (press “Ctrl_C” on keyboard or “Copy” in the “Edit” menu)

27 Step 16 Click on “Order higher-level product”

28 Step 17 Click on “Place On-Demand Order”

29 Step 18 Fill out your email address and click on “Continue”

30 Step 19 Choose the “AST-08” product

31 Step 20 Paste the gradual ID into the form (“Ctrl_V” on keyboard or “Paste” in the “Edit” menu); the ID was copied from the “List” page in step 15 and press “Continue”.

32 Step 21 Press “Continue” on the new page

33 Step 22 Press “Continue” on the new page

34 Step 23 A summary page appears and press “Submit”

35 Step 24 A message page appears and then press “Submit”

36 Step 25 An email will arrive in a few minutes after request.

37 Step 26 After 1 day the other email will arrive and inform the ordered data is ready. Press the ftp site.

38 Step 27 Use the mouse to choose the two data files, and copy them by pressing “Ctrl-C” on keyboard or pressing “Copy” button on “Edit” menu.

39 Step 28 Choose a folder on local hard drive and press “Ctrl-V” on keyboard to download the files.

40 Using the same way to order the reflectance data (AST_07 product). The following is the downloaded AST_07 file names, sizes, and types.

67 Step 13 Put mouse cursor on the left top of the red square (do not press the mouse buttons)

68 Step 14 Put mouse cursor on the right bottom of the red square (do not press the mouse buttons)

69 Step 15 Right click “Kinetic Temperature” and then click “Open As”

70 Step 16 Fill out the “Height” and “Width”, the numbers are from step 13 and 14; Click “Image” radio button.

73 Step 19 Choose the “Red” radio button

74 Step 20 Press mouse and drag the red line from left top to bottom right

75 Step 21 The final false color image

76 Read and export data in ASCII format Step 1 right click on “Kinetic Temperature” and then ”Open As”

77 Step 2 Choose “Spreadsheet” radio button and press “Ok”

78 Step 3 The data are shown in the spread sheet

79 Step 4 Choose desired data by dragging the mouse on the area and then press “Ctrl-C”

80 Step 5 Open Excel software and then paste data in a speadsheet

81 Read Lat. data Step 1 Double click on “Geolocation Fields”

82 Step 2 Right click on “Geodetic Latitude” and then “Open As”

83 Step 3 Click “OK”
