Storage Capacity: In any customer environment, storage capacity can be classified into 3-broad categories: -RAW (or Procured) Capacity: This is the total storage capacity of all the storage devices in the customer’s environment -Usable Storage: Usable (also referred to as Allocated on the mainframe) is defined as follows: Subset of Raw Capacity that can have data written to it for productive use. Usable Storage is raw capacity less capacity that cannot be written to but that, nonetheless, consumes disk capacity. Examples of non- productive capacity: operating/file systems, journaling, parity, RAID, mirroring, formatting, and spare drives -Written Data: The sub-set of Usable Storage that has data written to it RAW Capacity Usable Storage Written Data data empty system

Client value: -Enables clients to get the benefits of virtualization faster: reduced cost and complexity of managing storage, improved business continuity, improved storage utilization, improved personnel productivity, high availability and performance SVC seller value: -Moving data FROM storage with large numbers of small Logical Unit Numbers (LUNs) to storage managed by SVC enables rapid deployment of SVC -Moving data BETWEEN isolated SVC clusters for load balancing enables expansion of the SVC infrastructure -Moving data FROM unsupported SVC devices TO storage managed by SVC can drive need for more disk and more SVC nodes, as well as potentially more services -Moving data from a data center with no SVC’s to a new data center that is virtualized with SVC’s, for consolidation or relocation eliminates the need for infrastructure change in the old data center *Partner Internal use only – NOT to be shared with client

Global Technology Services © Copyright IBM Corporation 2008 8 Softek TDMF accelerates IBM System Storage SAN Volume Controller implementation TDMF focuses on enterprise data migration The migration of data can be done at any time without disrupting applications…which will enable clients to accelerate SVC implementations GTS provides structured low risk migration services using TDMF TDMF can: –Provide migration between SVC clusters –Enable consolidation into a smaller number LUNs as data is migrated into SVC –Significantly reduce the amount of time required to move data, compared to manual methods TDMF can facilitate consolidation of data centers into fully virtualized and more power and space efficient environments TDMF can transparently and non-disruptively migrate data FROM unsupported devices TO devices under SVC management, while SVC will handle the migrations of data on supported devices

Some volumes may be under-utilized, yet the space allocated to them is unavailable for use by other applications. Thin Provisioning Allocated Space Free Space Volume B Volume A Savings $$$ Physical DiskLogical Volumes Free space is pooled and available to any volume/application that requires it, this yields higher disk utilization and drives cost savings as less physical disk is needed to satisfy business demands.

Using TDMF can greatly accelerate migration of this data into SVC environment The more data migrated under SVC, the greater the need for additional storage arrays and additional SVC control units. TDMF enables Business Partner seller to: Sell more SVC nodes to manage the disk arrays, sell more disk to hold the data that was in unsupported environments sooner, and sell more disk to hold the data that was in remote SVC environments Example: Accelerating SVC implementation in a 150 TB environment can drive $197K incremental Business Partner disk and SVC revenue, as well as $135k in TDMF license fees and support services, plus any additional services revenue - 1 source: SVC Product Marketing - 2 38 Terabytes * $3.59/GB * 1000 GB/1TB Disk sales: $139,700 2 (38 additional TBs) SVC license fees: $57,000 1 (38 additional TBs)
