2 Apparition Definition- A ghostly figure.
“Dreadful apparition, why do you trouble me?”

3 melancholy Definition- excessively gloomy or sad.
Scrooge took his melancholy dinner in his usual melancholy tavern…

4 dismal Definition- causing gloom or depression.
The door of Scrooge’s counting-house was open, that he might keep his eye on his clerk, who in his dismal little cell beyond….

5 morose Definition- marked by gloom.
“What reason have you to be morose? You’re rich enough.”

6 executor Definition- person appointed to carry out reading or execution of a will. Scrooge was his sole executor, his sole administrator…his sole friend, and sole mourner.”

7 trifle Definition- something of little value or importance.
No beggars implored him to bestow a trifle, no children asked him what is was o’clock…

8 Facetious Definition- Joking or jesting often inappropriately.
Scrooge resumed his labors with an improved opinion of himself, and in a more facetious temper than was usual for him.

9 ruddy Definition- being red in color or hue.
The brightness of the shops where holly sprigs and berries crackled in the lamp heat of the windows, made pale faces ruddy as they passed.

10 bleak Definition- discouraging or depressing.
Floated out upon the bleak, dark night.

11 shrewdly Definition- wicked or mischievous.
Spoke out shrewdly in his grating voice.

12 Spelling contract/Vocab Homework
Spelling contract assignment will remain the same. You will also be required to turn in vocabulary homework this week. Write each word and it’s definition at least 4 times by Friday. Each time will equal 25 points for a total of 100 points. This will be a separate homework grade!
