Regional Planning Efforts 2001 Multi-Jurisdictional Solid Waste Task Group formed for long-term solid waste and recycling program & facility planning Representatives from all jurisdictions and special districts Most communities in the County have reached 50% but want to do more

MJSWTG Future Plans Future plans include: Expansion of existing residential, commercial, and school recycling C&D recycling expansion Evaluation of a dirty MRF Evaluation of conversion technologies Evaluation of composting/anaerobic digestion

Proposed RMDZ Renewal Composed of diverse partners: County of SB City of Santa Maria, City of Lompoc, and City of Santa Barbara Priority areas: Construction and demolition debris processing Agricultural film processing Compost or mulch processing Other opportunities that arise

Sample Project: Identified Agricultural businesses generate up to 4,000 tons of film annually 171 strawberry growers alone Historically relied on foreign markets Current domestic interest in agricultural film Santa Maria Valley identified as strategic location by industry

Sample Project: Initiated Agricultural Film Recycling Project City of Santa Maria is committed to revising Landfill SWFP allowing on-site facility Estimate CIWMB approval in summer 2006 RFP anticipated pending CIWMB approval
