12. University of California Student Association The University of California Student Association (UCSA) is a coalition of UC students and student governments aimed at increasing the accessibility, affordability and quality of the UC system through advocacy and direct action organizing. It has a Board of Directors composed of students elected or appointed by our member student governments. UCSA’s Board consists of one voting member per association, usually the External or Executive Vice President. Additionally, each voting member may appoint two non-voting board members, an Organizing Director (OD) and Legislative Director (LD).

13. External Affairs (Summer 2015) External Affairs (Summer 2015) Submitted a journal article for the UC Student Association Graduate Policy Journal addressing the lived experience of minority women in graduate school. Met with the UCSB Food Pantry to address graduate student outreach. Attended July, August & September Board meetings in Berkeley, Irvine and Davis. Attended UCSA Congress in Irvine with two other UCSB graduate students. Was elected as the UCSA Vice-Chair for the academic year Participated in multiple UCSA conference calls, read close to 100 applications to the various Systemwide committees (about 25 + student committees, student observers, student advocates to the regents (StARS), collective bargaining representatives, and UCSA appointed officer positions).

14. UCSA Graduate Agenda 2015-3016 1. Secure Pathways to Graduate Degrees : There is insufficient secure financial support for graduate students working toward doctoral degrees. This situation is compounded by a lack of consistent transparent guidelines for normative progress. 2. Food Security and Equal Student Service : Graduate and non-traditional students don’t always enjoy access to resources and other opportunities offered to undergraduates on campus, which makes them feel excluded from the campus community at large.

Healthy Graduate Student & Advisor Relationships : The lines of communication between advisors and graduate students can be easily broken when the proper avenues for creating and maintaining a healthy rhythm are ruptured, or nonexistent to begin with. The challenges of graduate student-advisor relationships are made invisible by the expectations that graduate students are solely responsible to prevent and resolve conflict with advisors without proper guidelines nor a shared language, or by primarily relying on the Ombuds office.

16. 4. Affordable Graduate Student Housing : Graduate students lack access to affordable and dignified housing. 5. Campus Climate for Diverse Graduate Student Identities : While there have been some top-down campus climate efforts towards improving graduate student inclusion and the multicultural resources available at the UC, there persists a significant disconnect between administrative perception and the lived experienced of graduate and professional students. Many campuses still struggle to foster a sense of inclusion and community among groups such as students of color, LGBTQI and nontraditional students.

17. Presently, UCSA depends on funding from membership dues collected by most campuses’ undergraduate and graduate/professional student associations, with supplemental support from the UC Office of the President and grants awarded to UCSA for program initiatives, such as voter registration. UCSA is seeking to adopt a more sustainable, equitable, and direct model of funding to expand student representation at the university, state, and federal levels. Exploring an opt-out student advocacy and representation fee of six* dollars per academic year, adjusted regularly for inflation, should be established and distributed to the University of California Student Association in replacement of the present membership dues funding model.

18. 2015-2016 GSA Legislative Director! Job Description o Oversee the development and implementation of grassroots legislative campaigns on campus. o Serve as the voting proxy for the VP of External Affairs at University of California Student Association (UCSA) board meetings. o Speak in UCSA board space. o Attend closed UCSA sessions, including the Student Regent Interviews. Responsibilities o Attend UCSA BOD meetings, the UC Student of Color Conference, and the UC Student Lobby Conference. o Organize local lobbying activities. o Attend as many BOD meetings and participate in the BOD as much as possible. Maintain regular communication with the UCSA Government Relations Director and other LL's. o Maintain regular communication with District offices near the campus. $1500 stipend and all travel expenses will be pay through external VP budget.

25. Co-Sponsorship Approval Process The eligibility criteria will be strictly adhered to. - The organization must be registered with the Office of Student Life (OSL) and be able to provide an OSL account number. - The event must provide a means for graduate students to enrich their educational experience at UCSB. The executive committee will provisionally approve or deny all co- sponsorships prior to the assembly meeting based on the eligibility requirements and budgetary restrictions. GSA Assembly Meeting Procedure -VPBF will present the financial state of the co-sponsorship fund. -VPBF will summarize all co-sponsorships for the month -A representative of each co-sponsorship application will introduce the group and event as a way of advertising to the graduate community. Assembly member are requested to pass this information on to their departments. -The assembly will batch ratify all co-sponsorships for the month.

28. India Association of Santa Barbara Mission statement : promote Indian culture and heritage in UCSB and around, in a synergistic way. Indian grad student community UG Indian community Indian families in SB IASB is the glue that connects across different asymmetric verticals in the community, in and around SB, since more than 10 years now. The celebration of traditional festivals like Dandiya/Garba and Diwali are important steps in this bonding and symbiotic process.

This Governing Documents Revisions Ad Hoc Committee is charged with democratically and transparently performing necessary revisions to the UCSB GSA Constitution and Bylaws. This Governing Documents Revisions Ad Hoc Committee would, beginning with the existing suggested revisions to the UCSB GSA Constitution and Bylaws made by the UCSB GSA Executive Committee, create additional revisions to be presented to and approved by the UCSB GSA Assembly by the 2015 December UCSB GSA Assembly Meeting. This Governing Documents Revisions Ad Hoc Committee should consist of 3 UCSB GSA Assembly Members, one of whom is Committee Chair, all of whom are nominated and appointed during this UCSB GSA Assembly. Motion to Execute Graduate Students Survey:Execute Graduate Students Survey I move that the UCSB GSA Executive Committee executes a Graduate Student Survey, to solicit feedback from UCSB graduate students regarding their ideas and concerns, and to provide the graduate student government a better understanding of constituent needs. I move that this Survey be conducted in the first 5 weeks of 2015 Fall Quarter, that the results be analyzed before the end of 2015 Fall Quarter, and that the analysis is made widely available and presented at the last UCSB GSA Assembly meeting on Tuesday, December 1st, 2015. I move that analysis of this survey data should be combined with existing UCSB OSL and GradDiv data, as well as other data from community stakeholders, as is available and possible in terms of legality and privacy.
