2 Ask Project Request June 2014 Objective: Request to ACT EC ▫Read, and share the Open Data API best practices with your team. ▫Have your agency begin to understand what ownership of different APIs versus Apps means to TCO. ▫Provide feedback to the Open Data API Committee so that our team will improve future research to benefit agencies. Benefits to ACT EC Agencies ▫These best practices can support agency strategies for citizens to access information on a full range of devices: desktops, laptops, tablets, mobile phones, and the many devices that are yet to come. ▫Agency personnel will gain better understanding of options deployed by other agencies and benefits derived from sharing data. 2

3 C&T SIG Open Data API Project Purpose of this project: ▫Identify the policies and best practices utilized by agencies for sharing open data using APIs The working group will create the following deliverables: ▫A brief prelude to the www.howto.gov/api for a non- technical federal executive on why and how to share data  1 page overview / infographic roadmap showing best practices in sharing information ▫A white paper focused on federal agency best practices ▫A panel discussion to publicize the findings of this committee 3
