CCC adult course – periodontology MPEs and competency exam guidelines Every student is expected to score 8 points throughout the academic year to fulfill the MPEs and be cleared to sit for the competency exam. (6 points for nonsurgical treatment + 2 points for Surgical treatment) Non-surgical MPEs 1 point will be scored for comprehensive periodontal examination and charting as well as scaling and root planing of one quadrant diagnosed with mild to moderate chronic periodontitis satisfying the following criteria: a. Each quadrant must have a minimum of 4 teeth of which at least two teeth have detectable subgingival calculus, probing depth of ≥ 5 mm and clinical attachment loss of ≥ 3 mm. b. Full mouth comprehensive periodontal examination and charting is a prerequisite prior to the Sc/Rp of any case. c. Cases must be re-revaluated 4 weeks after finishing phase 1 therapy. N.B: Other cases scored as MPEs 1 Point will be scored for the following situations as well, with a maximum of 2 points from this category to be added to the total count: – Comprehensive periodontal examination and charting as well as scaling of a full mouth case diagnosed with plaque induced gingivitis with local factors. – Any case that needs periodontal treatment in preparation for restorative or prosthodontic work that does not fulfill the set criteria. – A case of periodontal maintenance. Surgical MPEs 2 points will be scored for planning and assisting in at least one case of periodontal surgery. (the surgical write-up is mandatory

Periodontal criteria as a discipline in a CCC case Any case should be diagnosed with mild to moderate chronic periodontitis having a minimum of 3 points satisfying the following criteria: a. Each of the 3 quadrants must have a minimum of 4 teeth of which at least two teeth have detectable subgingival calculus, probing depth of ≥ 5 mm and clinical attachment loss of ≥ 3 mm. b. Full mouth comprehensive periodontal examination and charting is a prerequisite prior to the Sc/Rp of any case. c. Cases must be re-revaluated 4 weeks after finishing phase 1 therapy. N.B: CCC cases that require surgical periodontal treatment will not be considered as a discipline unless it fulfills the previous criteria, nevertheless it will be given credit as 2 points ( surgical MPEs)
