Integer Problem A widescreen television usually costs $1250. You can get a 30% discount if you buy it today. You must also pay 8% sales tax. How much will the television cost if you buy it today?

3. Solve 1250 x.30 = $375 (discount) 1250-375 = 875 875 x 0.08 = $70 (tax) 875 + 70 = $945 (total cost!) Let’s take this one step at a time.

First I found the amount of discount and subtracted that from the total. Then I found the tax of the new price and added it to the total. The television has a price of $945 if purchased today.
