Share Your Loglines Share (read aloud) all loglines with the group …even if you have already selected a story to go with I want you to hear the other ideas out there and how your peers present their ideas also – you may want to go back to one of the stories for another project. 2

The Final Decide on a story you will tell in a short film In choosing a story, think about… The writer’s vision The availability of locations/resources to tell the story Cast/actors you might need Can you tell the story in a 4-5 minute film? 3

When developing a story, consider the following concept… the story is what happens; the message is what it means. Not all movies have this formula—but the “good” movies tend to show this. Example: Mean Girls. Story is about a girl who attends an urban high school for the first time after being home- schooled in Africa - experiencing the psychological warfare and unwritten social rules that exist there. The Message is that popularity isn’t everything, and that girls need to support each other, not break each other down. 4

Decide who will have what role Director (co-directors?) Cinematographer (co-cinematographers?) Sound Design/Mixer Editor 5

What’s Due Today: Director will compose an email to all members and Ms. Bacon (sent by the end of class today). The email will include: The name of all group members and each person’s chosen role The Pitch Genre Principle setting The story Look at calendar and pencil in ideas/plans… This should be led by the director Notes should be made on the calendar (and elsewhere?) 6

What’s due, continued… By Friday (12/18), 7am: All group members must email a ‘reply all’ commenting on the Pitch Comments like – “I like that we’ll be doing…”; “It might be hard to do…”; “I think so-and-so would be good in the role of…”; etc. To earn credit for this – you need to give specific feedback 7

Done picking and choosing a script and roles? Start planning: Look at the calendar Start a Story Board and/or Short List Actors? Costumes (ie: clothing to wear to keep consistency) Cameras to use? 8
