On any given day, up to 100 people are on Kaho‘olawe to kōkua with reforestation and restoration activities. Three KIRC staff inhabit the island 365 days a year.

Energy Use on Kaho‘olawe KIRC uses solar power and a diesel generator to supply electricity to their facilities at the Honokanai‘a base camp.

When the power goes out… …a portable generator provides back-up to cook the rice!

Energy Use on Kaho‘olawe Boats and helicopters bring everyone and everything to Kaho‘olawe. Even the diesel fuel for the generator has to be flown in by helicopter.

Energy Use on Kaho‘olawe Transportation from one point on the island to another is either by foot, or by truck.
