Conscience is a person’s sense of right and wrong It involves the mind and the will in judging and choosing Deals with knowing and deciding Has a sense of responsibility about what is right and wrong.

Characteristics of a Well-Formed Christian Conscience 1.Formed with a Christian community awareness and not in isolation by and for self; 2.Is free 3.Is creative and can respond to a variety of situations in a variety of ways; 4.Is not misinformed or blind 5.Is grounded in gospel truth 6.Expresses itself in an alive relationship with God and the Christian community

3 Types of Catholic Conscience 1.Static – means still or not progressing Church must tell them what to do. You deny responsibility if the church does not provide an answer Not trying to make present situations better

2.Excessive – means overly active You and only you are your own moral judge No one, not even the church can tell you what to do You take ideas to the extreme – feel lots of pressure

3.Dynamic – means progressive You have a responsible attitude towards community, the church and Christ You work toward the values Jesus spoke of and try to live them You judge within the guidelines of the church and Jesus
