Current P&P Wording 1.5 Program Faculty There are two levels of faculty membership in the Program: Program Faculty and Dissertation- Quali ed Faculty. 1.5.1 Program Faculty Membership as Program Faculty is open to faculty members of Wright State University who possess full graduate faculty status in the School of Graduate Studies intend to contribute to the supervision of students in the Program (new applicants) and have a track record of supervising students in the Program (renewals). 1.5.2 Dissertation-Qualified Faculty (DQF) Dissertation-quali ed faculty (DQF) members must ful ll the requirements for Program Faculty (1.5.1), be members of one of the WSU engineering programs, and run an active research pro- gram as demonstrated by several of the following: supervision of M.S. theses or Ph.D. dissertations as the primary advisor participation in M.S. thesis or Ph.D. dissertation committees to completion publication of archival journal articles service as an editor or associate editor for journals service as a reviewer for journals service as chair or organizer of technical conferences and/or conference sessions recognition through professional honors or awards external funding through research grants and contracts

Proposal 1 1.5.1 Program Faculty Program faculty may supervise students in the program, may vote at program faculty meetings, may serve on the Student Affairs and Program Affairs Committees, and may serve as program director. Membership as Program Faculty is open to faculty members of Wright State University who possess full graduate faculty status in the School of Graduate Studies, have their primary TET appointment in one of the WSU engineering programs, and run an active research program as demonstrated by archival publications, external funding, and service in professional societies. 1.5.2 Dissertation-Qualified Faculty Dissertation-Qualified Faculty may supervise students in the program, but may not serve in any other capacity. Membership as Dissertation-Qualified Faculty is open to faculty members of Wright State University who possess full graduate faculty status in the School of Graduate Studies, have a joint TET appointment in one of the WSU engineering programs, and run an active research program as demonstrated by archival publications, external funding, and service in professional societies. Emeritus faculty are eligible to retain Dissertation-Qualified Faculty status if all of the following conditions are satisfied. They were Program Faculty or Dissertation-Qualified Faculty at the time of retirement. They were supervising one or more students at the time of retirement that had completed candidacy, and one or more of these students has not yet successfully completed their dissertation defense. They retain full graduate faculty status in the School of Graduate Studies. They have not been retired for more than five years. Emeritus faculty are not eligible to begin supervising new students.

Proposal 2 1.5.1 Program Faculty Membership as Program Faculty is open to faculty members* of Wright State University who possess full graduate faculty status in the School of Graduate Studies intend to contribute to the supervision of students in the Program (new applicants) and have a track record of supervising students in the Program (renewals). * for the purpose of continuing to participate on or direct Ph.D. dissertation committees, faculty members includes Faculty Emeritus who at the time of their retirement were qualified DQF members. Faculty Emeritus can continue to hold Program Faculty status until all effected students have completed their work or ???? years (whichever comes first). NOTE: for the last sentence there are two choices that need discussion: "Faculty Emeritus cannot initiate new applicants." -or- "Faculty Emeritus can initiate new applicants for ???? years."

Proposal 3 1.5 Faculty There are two types of faculty membership in the Program: Program Faculty and Dissertation-Qualified Faculty. 1.5.1 Dissertation-Qualified Faculty Dissertation-Qualified Faculty may supervise Engineering Ph.D. students, vote at program faculty meetings, serve on the various Program committees, and may serve as Program Director. Membership as Dissertation-Qualified Faculty is open to faculty members of Wright State University who satisfy all of the following: have their primary TET appointment in one of the WSU engineering programs, and possess full graduate faculty status in the Wright State University Graduate School, and demonstrate graduate program activity through scholarship, funded research, and teaching graduate-level courses. 1.5.2 Program Faculty Program faculty may co-supervise (with a DQF) Engineering Ph.D. students. Membership as Program Faculty is open to faculty members of Wright State University who satisfy all of the following: have a joint TET appointment in one of the WSU engineering programs, and possess full graduate faculty status in the Wright State University Graduate School, and run an active research program as demonstrated by archival publications, external funding, and service in professional societies. 1.5.3 Faculty Retirement and Resignation Faculty who retire or resign as tenured Dissertation-Qualified Faculty may retain DQF status only for the purpose of advising to completion existing students if all of the following conditions are satisfied: They were supervising one or more students who had completed candidacy at the time of separation, and They retain full graduate faculty status in the Wright State University Graduate School, and They have not been retired or resigned for more than five years.
