Unit 2: Set Design EQ: What are the different aspects of realism and fantasy design and how can I use them in my set?

 The general attempt to depict things accurately. In set design, realism sets would be sets that looked like they actually were taken place now or in the past. There would be accurate portrayals of all items you see. 

 Essentially, fantasy follows rules of its own making, allowing magic and other fantastic devices to be used and still be internally cohesive.

 Color: The changing of color from a natural color of an object that you see every day to an unnatural one can help your set go from realistic to fantasy. For example, green grass with yellow flowers is realistic. Blue grass with black and pink polka dot flowers is fantasy

 Changing the proportions of objects can take a set from realism to fantasy. For example, a house that is normal sized vs a house that is too small to enter.

 Changing the lines of your design can also make your design fantasy

 Using items in your set design that simply do not exist in reality can also give you a fantasy set.
