What Can be Improved Ensure new volunteers are encouraged to participate in PAW activities right away New adoption show volunteers should be paired with a buddy and assigned tasks Ensure adoption show volunteer attendance is not oversubscribed so all volunteers will be engaged Streamline process to become a dog walker by eliminating requirement to attend adoption shows Dog walkers, transporters or handlers should be informed if any dog has unique behavior concerns Encourage adequate space between animals at shows so public is able to meet the animals; reduce volunteer clustering around animals Improve communication, especially pertaining to adoption decisions Emphasize courteous volunteer behavior at adoption shows Partnership for Animal Welfare 6
7
Our Focus Going Forward Reduce the number of volunteer orientations in order to devote more energy around engaging new and existing volunteers Adoption show attendance will no longer be required for those interested in walking dogs Adoption show attendance will be monitored to ensure adequate coverage without becoming oversubscribed Ensure new volunteers are assigned “buddies” at adoption shows to show them the ropes Encourage the use of name tags at adoption shows Remind all volunteers of the importance of courtesy behavior with each other and the public Partnership for Animal Welfare 7
