 Memory Verse:“Do all things without complaining and disputing” Philippians 2:14

 Murmuring is “to utter in a low voice by the way of complaint”. The Greek word for murmur is GONGSTES and is translated “murmurers”’. It means “one who complains”  The Hebrew word for murmur is lun. It’s synonyms are grumbling, gripping, groaning, whining, whispering, complaining, carping, self- pitying, or playing the role of a victim.  The one who murmurs not only complains to those around them, but complains also about all those around them. They also complain about GOD and what HE is trying to do in their lives.  Murmuring includes not only what is spoken, but also the manner which it is spoken. While complaining is to express grief, pain or discontent or to make formal accusation or charge, we are instructed in Philipians 2:14 to do all things without complaining and disputing.

 1 Moreover, brethren, I would not that ye should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea;  2 And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea;  3 And did all eat the same spiritual meat;  4 And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.  5 But with many of them God was not well pleased: for they were overthrown in the wilderness.

6 Now these things were our examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted. 7 Neither be ye idolaters, as were some of them; as it is written, The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play. 8 Neither let us commit fornication, as some of them committed, and fell in one day three and twenty thousand. 9 Neither let us tempt Christ, as some of them also tempted, and were destroyed of serpents. 10 Neither murmur ye, as some of them also murmured, and were destroyed of the destroyer. 11 Now all these things happened unto them for examples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come.

1. What are the problems with complaining and murmuring? 2. What are the causes of murmuring and complaining? 3. What can you do to stop murmuring and complaining?

a) Discontent – Christians are taught to be content with whatsoever GOD has blessed them with. 1 Tim. 6: 5-8 b) Greed – Naboth was murdered for his vineyard by King Ahab. I Kings 21: 1-4 c) Selfishness/Self-centredness. When you do things, do not let selfishness or pride be your guide. Philipians 2:3-8 d) Dissatisfaction about worshipping and serving GOD. The Israelites become indifferent toward GOD and the way they conducted their lives. They treated the command of GOD with familiarity and carelessness, Mal. 1:13 -13

a) It displeases GOD. Numbers 11:1 b) Shows a negative attitude. Deut. 1:27 c) It shows a lack of faith. Psalm 106:24 -25 d) It stems from immaturity. e) It opens the door for satan. 1 Cor. 10:9 -13 f) It expresses our thoughts about GOD and HIS word. Jude 1:14-16 g) It is a negative confession – Eph. 4: 29 – 31 h) The words of our mouths must be in line with GOD’S word. Josh 1:8

a) Give thanks. Paul said that we should give thanks in all circumstances. 1 Thess. 5:18 b) We are command to glory in tribulation because of the great benefits it yields, 2 Cor. 2:14 c) Have faith. Faith is learning to live by insight rather than by sight, Hebrews 11:6, Romans 5: 1-5 d) If we truly practise our faith, it will be seen in how we face trials and how we treat others. James 1:2-4, Psa 119:71&75

e) Positive confession. Positive Confessions is confessing (saying) the word of GOD aloud and making it personal. Be careful what you speak because you will eat the fruit from your lips. Proverbs 18:20 f) Regardless of the circumstances, when we are walking faithfully before GOD, all things are working out for our good; therefore, we are required to be in GOD’S perfect will. Rom 828 g) Contentment- Paul was concerned that Christians do not understand that GOD wants them to be content. GOD desires HIS people to live in a state of contentment. Phil 4:11 -12

 Murmuring and complaining about our circumstances is unpleasant to GOD, and it is something that you should stop doing as you will not please GOD.  MAY WE FAITHFULLY CROSS-OVER TO OUR PROMISE LAND AS WE STOP MURMURING AND COMPLAINING IN JESUS CHRIST NAME! AMEN!
