1 Exporting Goal Summary Data Kristy Stephenson Johnston County Schools

2 Exporting Goal Summary Data Open WinScan Select the test you wish to export data for. Under the data menu, select export means or goals.

3 Exporting Goal Summary Data Export as a tab delimited file. Name the file Use grade level and subject area

4 Exporting Goal Summary Data Select data files you wish to export. Choose all files to include all data for LEA calculations.

5 Exporting Goal Summary Data Select the subject you want to export Math Reading

6 Exporting Goal Summary Data Select System Code Exports overall goal summary information Select OK

7 Exporting Goal Summary Data When data is exported, select close. Select yes, when asked to choose a different break variable.

8 Exporting Goal Summary Data Select LEASchCode to export overall goal summary information for each school.

9 Exporting Goal Summary Data Select Close Choose yes in the confirmation box. Continue this process; alternating between county and school for each subgroup you wish to export. Selecting System and Male –exports data for all male in the LEA.

10 Exporting Goal Summary Data To export the number of students at each achievement level and the percent proficient, select export achievement level counts from data menu.

12 Exporting Goal Summary Data Select data files you wish to export. Choose all files to include all data for LEA calculations.

13 Exporting Goal Summary Data Select the variable you wish to export data for. Follow the same process as before. Exporting variables in the same order as was done for goals/objectives will make merging of the files easier. Open tab delimited files in Excel and merge.

14 Exporting User-Defined Variables Under test menu, select create “user-defined’ variables.

16 Exporting User-Defined Variables Select Local Use J_T Name your variable.

17 Exporting User-Defined Variables When prompted select the range and width of your variable. Select Quit and Save – the new variable will show at the bottom of the variables list to export from. 18 Sample Goal Summary Reports Goal Summary by Subgroup by Grade-level All Males/Females Ethnicity EC identification Academically Gifted Achievement levels Special Code Allows schools to compare how they performed compared to other schools in county.

19 Sample Goal Summary Reports Discrepancy Goal Summary Report Allows schools to see the discrepancy between their data for each subgroup and the overall county data.

20 Sample Goal Summary Reports Goal Summary by Teacher Code Allows teachers to identify strengths and weaknesses between classes.

21 Caution in using Goal Summary Data A goal summary report provides only a general picture of the achievement for the group of students due to the varying difficulty of questions across objectives. Consider the variation in the number of students. Small numbers of students may not have data for all areas depending on the forms of the test given in the group. When looking at teacher goal summary reports, consider the types of students in that teacher’s class (example – teacher teaching AIG students vs. teacher teaching EC students). Look for trends in the data
