Sincerity Truth Joy Justice Freedom Excellence Internationality English Language Reading Find implicit and explicit information in a text Show they understand how writers use language and structure Understand and be able to compare writers’ point of view Evaluate the effectiveness of a text. What you can do to help: Encourage reading at home. This can be books, newspapers or news sites. Discuss what your child has read. Use revision guides and practice papers to practise skills. For this GCSE it is about practising skills over and over rather than learning any content. All the texts they’ll get in the exam will be unseen. Skills based, split up into Reading and Writing

Some pupils struggle to find ideas to write about. Help your child proof read their work. Use practice questions to practice planning answers and writing full answers in timed conditions. Skills based, split up into Reading and Writing

Need to understand and be able to write about character, theme, language and context. What you can do to help: Talk about the texts they are studying: Jekyll and Hyde, Romeo and Juliet, An Inspector Calls, Relationships Poetry Anthology. Encourage your child to use study guides to look at the text in more detail. Encourage your child to use high quality educational websites like Spark notes to explore the text.
