7 1.Convene key community leaders and members to understand dementia and its implications for your community. Then, form an Action Team. 2.Engage key leaders to assess current strengths and gaps in your community using a comprehensive engagement tool. 3.Analyze your community needs and determine the issues stakeholders are motivated to act on; then set community goals. 4.ACT together to establish implementation plans for your goals and identify ways to measure progress. 11 Spokespersons In addition to Ron Grant, Senators Tom Daschle and Bill Frist have stepped up as spokespersons for Dementia Friendly America. “I proudly support the Dementia Friendly America initiative for its work to enable profound community-level change across our nation. Its all sectors approach acknowledges an important truth – everyone within “our" community can play an important role in supporting those with dementia.” - Senator Tom Daschle “As a person living with Alzheimer’s, words cannot express what the Dementia Friendly America initiative means to me. To be able to stay in my own home in my own community for as long as possible is very comforting, and I thank the DFA members for working together to achieve that.
