Lake Whitney Elementary Kindergarten with Mrs. Turner Hope Charter School 8 th Grade with Mrs. Wiggers

● “I am going to use my listening ears.” ● “I am going to keep my eyes on my teacher.” ● “I am going to use my inside voice.” ● “I am going to use my gentle hands.” ● “I am going to use my walking feet.” This ruling and graph of Mr. Potato Head is used when judging the behavior chart. The teacher would look back on if each student followed these rules, to decide whether or not they would earn a sticker on their behavior chart.

-Respect -Come to class on time -Turn in homework on appropriate due date -Do not talk unless called upon Middle and High School Rules

In the Kindergarten classroom, tools such as arts and crafts, headphone stations for audio books, and songs to help with lessons were the resources which were most useful. In the middle school classroom, resources were condensed and only included computers, textbooks, and a smartboard for the teacher to use.

Common Core is the planning in which my teacher used, because of the state standards. Although, she added her own personal ideas, along with taking out a few different ideas. http://1.bp.blogspot.com/- _gcYECDb4jA/UXk3KdXl2pI/AAAAAAA AAzE/DTeRV4pUwTs/s1600/Wordupac tivities_Page_2.png

This is an actual picture of the classroom setting of Hope Charter School- which is connected with Legacy Charter High School. Students in these classrooms seemed to be more eager and motivated to learn than the ones of public schools. The teachers stay involved and helping with each student.

In my observation of a younger classroom setting, the teacher was very hands-on. The teacher was involved with every unit being presented. Rather than handing out worksheets for the children to do on their own, she was working with them to help them get a better understanding, and would not move on until that was a known fact.

The responsibilities and tasks that a teacher must complete in the classroom setting is a lot more than assumed. Observing each of these teachers has given me the chance to make certain my profession as a teacher.

 Kindergarten:  1. “Yes, the difference of what is taught. Independence and hands-on is the biggest known difference.”  2. “Parent involvement and behavior are the challenges at the top of my head.”  3. “Email and daily agendas is how I communicate with each of my parents.”  4. “In my classroom I like to use small groups and hands-on so the students can get different opinions from their peers, along with learning to do some things on their own.”  5. “I use boy/girl centers, behavior charts to get them to be motivated. Competition at this age is killer.”  Middle School:  1. “The attitudes and mentality towards education is the toughest thing I deal with.”  2. “Competition is a big thing, most of my students are athletes or on a team of some sort.”  3. “Email and monthly newletters are the ways I try to communicate, but its hard because at this age the parents believe they are responsible enough to do their work on their own.”  4. “Teaching strategies at this age are involvement with the lesson, or something they can relate to as they learn- to gain their attention.”  5. “Motivation is hard. I try to do like a ticket for homework passes, or if they maintain an A in the class, I will drop their lowest grade from the semester.”
