5 Production Design a door reclaimed from the farmhouse joins the shed. The boy looks through the rough window and this is what he sees

6 Production Design The original kitchen sink, left, was replaced with an older ‘Belfast’ sink, right, and the kitchen was dressed to look like that of a poorer house in the early 1970’s.

7 Make-up  Helps actors find a look that suits the character they wish to portray.  Check throughout shoot that the look is maintained and matches with previous shots.  Work closely with costume/wardrobe department on set. Make-up supervisor performs checks on Susan Lynch on shoot day 1. Costume supervisor stands close by to make her checks.

10 Costume  Helps actors and director find a clothing style that fits with the period and characterisation required for the film.  Will buy, make or hire costumes.  Check on continuity of costume throughout shoot. Lead actors and extras at the chapel all need to be dressed…

11 Lots of wool clothes were used for characters in the film. This helped to date the film, and give the impression of lots of home-made clothes. It also highlighted, and contrasted with, the efforts made by the woman to provide a jumper for her own child. Costume
