2 Tectonics Observatory - Scientific Objective - Take advantage of recent technological advances in Earth Sciences to improve our understanding of the dynamics of the lithosphere at the time scale of earthquake rupture to long term geological deformation.

3 Stimulate cross-discipline interactions within the GPS Division. Use modern techniques and develop new techniques for tectonic studies (CGPS, satellite imagery, thermochronology, seismic imaging, isotopic geochemistry …) Take advantage of new computational techniques and recent hardware advances. Create a stimulating multidisciplinary environment to breed a new generation of earth scientists By which means?

4 Facilities  Computation  Geochemistry  Geological & Geophysical Projects  Process oriented projects  Regional projects Implementation

5 Infrastructure GIS facilities CGPS networks (~70): Sumatra (30), Nepal(18), Taiwan(4), Chili(13), Peru(4), Western US(2) Mass Spectrometers for Stable Isotopes measurements (paleoaltymetry) and He cosmogenic dating. 50 Broadband seismometers for temporary deployment.
