5 How to Cite Evidence

6  Step 1: figure out what the question is asking  Step 2: Use evidence-based terms to answer  Step 3: find words/phrases/sentences in the text that support your answer (back it up)  Step 4: explain your evidence

7 Evidence-Based Terms  According to the text…  For instance…  The author states…  It says on page ___...

8 Question: Why did Jack and Jill fall down the hill?  Step 1: What was the root of the boy and girl becoming injured?  Step 2 & 3: The text states “Jack and Jill went up the hill to fetch a pail of water.”  Step 4: Jack and Jill had to do their chores before playing, which led to the accident.
