2 A METHOD FOR OBTAINING PSYCHOPHYSICAL THRESHOLDS FROM THE PIGEON DONALD S. BLOUGH J. exp. anal. Behav. 1958, 1 (1). (1) The bird is reinforced for pecking one response key (key A) when an illuminated stimulus patch is visible and another (key B) when the patch is dark (2) As a result, the stimulus intensity oscillates up and down across the pigeon's threshold, and a continuous record of the stimulus intensity gives a picture of the threshold, just as in Bekesy's procedure.

11 The defining characteristic of a Poisson distribution is that its mean and variance are identical. e is the base of the natural logarithm (e = 2.71828...)base of the natural logarithm k is the number of occurrences of an event - the probability of which is given by the function k! is the factorial of kfactorial λ is a positive real number, equal to the expected number of occurrences that occur during the given interval. For instance, if the events occur on average 4 times per minute, and you are interested in the number of events occurring in a 10 minute interval, you would use as your model a Poisson distribution with λ = 10×4 = 40.real numberminute
