Transformational Government The successor to the e-government programme Five year plan to transform government The initiative is ‘Enabled by Technology Emphasises the role of IT in the delivery of efficient and citizen-centric public services

So what does this mean to a council? “Customer Access Channels”: the underpinning software, hardware and in house skills required to support and enable the transformation of customer facing processes and back office administrative processes. “Transactional Services”: the transformation of high volume, high cost customer facing and back office administrative processes supported and enabled by IT. “Service Transformation”: the transformation of service delivery to the public for example the personalisation of adults social services.

What are the challenges? The need to abstract back-end systems from the citizen whilst providing a view Automating mission-critical processes Enforcing process compliance and governance Enabling new channels and new access models Providing visibility across disparate heterogeneous systems Reducing risk in legacy modernisation

What is needed? The need to link Applications... −inside the firewall (EAI) −outside the firewall (EDI/TPI) The need to link Services... −inside the firewall −outside the firewall The need to implement Business Processes that are graphically defined (as opposed to embedded in code) The need to implement Business Rules without embedding them in code What is needed is Microsoft BizTalk Server!

What is BizTalk Server in this context? A rich Development platform consisting of a collection of tools built on the.NET platform that are useful for addressing several different problem domains. A Server platform on which the assets developed with the above tools run, together with tools for monitoring and management. Think “ SQL Server ” rather than “ Exchange ”
