Instead of…Try… This is too hard!If something is hard, it means I am learning. I can’t do this! This is going to take time and effort to achieve. I give up! I’ll use some of the strategies I have learnt. I made a mistake! This was my first attempt in learning.

* In our Foundation Stage we encourage children to be independent learners and take responsibility for their own learning. As each week commences the ‘planning sheets’ are blank. They are then filled in gradually during the week as child led learning takes place and is extended by an adult. All adults contribute to these sheets and supporting photographs are added to the records where possible. * Also, ‘WOW’ moments are recorded for all children as and when they occur. These are then added to the child’s special book.

* Each week 3 focus children per class are selected. * The cycle of observation, assessment, planning, observation is carried out on a moment-by- moment basis. * Activities that occur are recorded when the cycle is complete. These records are noted on the learning journeys of the focus children and on spontaneous planning sheets for activities in which a group have become involved.

* The adults observe and interact with children in order to facilitate their learning. * High level involvement occurs most often when children are able to pursue their own interests in an enabling environment both indoors and outdoors. * When children show high levels of involvement, that is when there is progress and development occurring – when the brain is at its most active!

* The adults observe and interact with children in order to facilitate their learning. * The adults who work in our Foundation Stage know the children very well and have a sound understanding of child development. * This ensures that the adults enhance and extend the learning at the appropriate level for each individual creating personalised learning for all.
