1. Periodic Table Coloring Activity

3. Step 1 – number the columns 1 – 18 then draw a dark black line starting on the left of column 13 and going down in a stair-step line to the bottom.

4. Step 2 – Color the first block in column 1 yellow as well as all the blocks to the right of the stair-step line. Color all of the rest of the blocks on the left of the line light blue – including the two rows at the bottom. Start a key at the bottom of the page – the light blue are the metals and the yellow are the non-metals.

5. Step 3 – color ½ of the all the blue blocks in column 1 a dark blue and label these the Alkali metals.

6. Step 4 – color ½ of all the blocks in column 2 purple and label them Alkaline Earth metals

7. Step 5 – color ½ of the blocks in columns 3 – 12 ( including the ones on the bottom two rows) dark green and label them the transition metals.

8. Step 6 – color ½ the blocks in column 13 dark orange and label them the Boron Group

9. Step 7 – color ½ the blocks in column 14 light orange and label them the Carbon group

10. Step 8 – color ½ the blocks in column 15 red and label them the Nitrogen group

11. Step 9 – color ½ the blocks in column 16 pink and label them the Oxygen group

12. Step 10 – color ½ the blocks in column 17 light green and label them the Halogens

13. Step 11 – color ½ the blocks in column 18 dark yellow and label them the Noble Gases.

14. Step 12 – color ¼ of the blocks along the stair step line (except aluminum) light brown and label them the metalloids

15. Step 13 – color ¼ of the first block in columns 8, 9, and 10 black and label them the Iron Triad

16. Step 14 – color ¼ of the blocks in column 11 dark brown and label them the Coinage group

17. Step 15 – color ¼ of the blocks in column 12 dark yellow and label them the Coating metals

18. Step 16 – color a purple stripe across the top of the uppermost of the bottom 2 rows and label it the Lanthanide series.

19. Step 17 – color a pink stripe across the bottom of the lower bottom row and label Them the Actinide series

20. Step 18 – On the lower row staring in block 6 from the left and continuing on to the end of that row as well as the last row in the main group above – color ¼ of the blocks blue green and label them Transuranium
