Cartoon Analysis: 1. What is the title? 2. What object is in the cartoon? 3. What is the message of the cartoon? This is the first political cartoon in American history. Benjamin Franklin created it. Many people during this time believed snakes would come back to life if the pieces were joined. This cartoon was used as part of Franklin's idea of the Albany Plan of Union (a plan to create a council of colonial delegates to help rule the colonies.)

Declaration of Independence - Purpose: To explain why the colonies are declaring independence -27 Reasons for independence: 1.King George III is a tyrant. (kept armies in colonies, judges serve king) 2.Parliament destroyed the colonists' right to self-rule. (quartering troops, no trial by jury, unfair taxes) 3.The king abandoned the colonists. (burned towns, no protection from Indians, attacking colonists) -England did NOT have consent of the colonists to rule them. -All men have right to LIFE, LIBERTY, and PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS.

Mecklenburg Resolves 1. Anyone who threatens our rights as men is our enemy. 2. Mecklenburg County citizens are free from England. 3.Mecklenburg County is a self-governing place. 4. They do not have to follow any British laws or obey anyone appointed from Britain. 5. All officers serve the County and will spread peace.
