Preparing and Formatting a Quranic Braille Document New Quranic ayat must be written on the third cell from the left (like tab in computer). Quranic word (kalimah) must be completed in one line.
21
2 ways of writing the end of Quranic ayats: 1) After completing an ayat, put ayat number, then continue with next ayat on the same line (used in Arab countries) 2) After completing an ayat, put ayat number. New ayat must begin on new line. Cannot mix 2 or more ayats in one line (methods used in other Islamic countries)
22
How to write a cover page for Quranic Braille? - Important information such as: i) title of the work, ii) number of juzuk, iii) number of volume, iv) name of publisher/transcriber, v) Date written/transcribed
23
Example of a title page from Quranic Braille by PERTIS
24
Al-Quran al-Karim (Arabic) Bi al-Kitabah al-’Arabiyyah al-Nafirah Min juz 26 ila juz 30 Al-Mujallad 6/6 Diterbitkan Oleh (Malay) Persatuan Orang-orang cacat Islam Malaysia (PERTIS) Address (Malay) 1999M/1419H
25
After the cover page, there is an index to the content of the surahs (this page is not numbered)
26
Fihrist (Arabic) Surah nmbr safhah Al-ahqaf (2356)+no. 46 …………….. No. 1
27
Content of the document comes after the index. Must be numbered. Every page must have a header containing the basic information such as: i) Name of juz ii) No. of juz iii) Name of surah iv) No. of surah v) No. of Braille page
28
Variation of the header in other versions of the Quran: i) Page No. (ordinary Quran) (left) ii) Juz no. (middle) iii) Name of Surah (middle) iv) Page no. in Braille (right)
29
In the beginning of surah, must give the following information in one line: i) Name of surah (surah al-ahqaf) ii) No. of surah iii) Makki/Madani iv) No. of ayat in the surah (spell & give in numbers) v) Basmalah
30
Hamim No.26 al-Ahqaf no. 46 no. 1 ……………………………………………………. Surah al-ahqaf no. 46 makkiyyah wa hiya khams wa thalathuna (35) ayah Basmalah Surah….
31
Another example of Quranic Braille format:
32
Al-Quran al-Karim (Arabic) Dlm Kod BRL Arab Juz Sepuluh (10) …………… DLM TIGA PULUH JUZ …………… FATIMAH BT HASHIM ADDRESS (2001)
33
This Quran does not have an index, because one volume has one juzuk only. Each ayat is written in one line. New ayat begins in new line (similar to PERTIS). Use line to separate between header & body of the text (Malaysia & Saudi style no line, but Indon style uses line)
34
Header consist of 2 tiers. It contains the following info: -Tier 1: page no. in Braille (right) - Tier 2: i) Juzuk name (left) ii) Juzuk no. (middle) iii) Name of surah (middle) iv) Surah no. (right)
35
no. 1 wa I’lamu no. 10 al-anfal no. 8 ………………………………………………….. Quranic verses
